About the Colorado Symphony Orchestra

 

On May 1, 1990, the Denver Symphony Association and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra announced their intentions to merge as one group. Today the merged group is known as the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. The Orchestra performs the majority of its concerts in Boettcher Concert hall at the Denver Performing Arts Complex, the second largest complex in the country. The Orchestra performs a variety of different concert series per season. The Orchestra features 79 full-time musicians and one full time librarian who live throughout the Denver Metropolitan Area. The Orchestra peforms a 43 week season including a 39 week winter season and a 4 week summer season.

  • 21 Week Masterworks Season - Featuring some of the world's best conductors and classical soloists
  • Pops Series - Featuring Classical Pops performances - Recent performances have featured music of the Beatles, Elton John, the Eagles and our Principal Pops Conductor Marvin Hamlisch
  • Family Series - Halloween Concerts, Narrated special programs for children
  • Inside the Score Series - A look inside the composers life and work
  • Community Concerts - Martin Luther King, Jr. Concert and Cinco De Mayo
  • Special Events - Guest Artist such as Lang Lang, Elvis Costello and Yo Yo Ma.
  • Concerts Across the State - In the past two seasons the Orchestra has performed in Montrose, Gunnison, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Beaver Creek and Greeley.
  • Performs as the Opera Orchestra for Opera Colorado - The CSO recorded John Adams' Opera Nixon In China with conductor Laureate Marin Alsop in Collaboration with the Colorado Opera to critical acclaim.
